The MCC has clarified that a new law requiring fielders to hold the ball with “complete control” applies only when they break the wicket with their hand or arm. The law, effective from October 1, had triggered confusion online. Run-outs will stand if the ball hits the stumps, even when deflected by a bowler or a wicketkeeper’s pads, or kicked.
