Meghalaya’s coldest day was in 1989

Meghalaya’s harsh winter has revived memories of extreme cold. IMD records show the state’s lowest-ever temperature of –3.4°C was recorded at Barapani on January 14, 1989. This winter, Mawkyrwat logged the season’s lowest minimum at 0.6°C on January 8, with clear skies and radiative cooling intensifying the chill across the hills.
