Menaka Guruswamy elected to Rajya Sabha, becomes 1st queer MP

Senior Advocate Menaka Guruswamy was elected unopposed as a member of the Rajya Sabha on a TMC ticket from West Bengal, becoming the first queer MP in the country. She was one of the lawyers who argued a landmark case that decriminalised homosexuality in India. She recently represented TMC in a legal dispute concerning searches conducted by ED.
