Mercury may have 9-mile-thick layer of diamonds under its surface

Mercury may have a 9-mile-thick layer of diamonds beneath its surface, a new study suggests. However, the gems can not be mined but may help scientists learn more about the planet. Mercury also has rare dark surface patches which NASA's Messenger mission identified as graphite, a crystalline form of carbon.
