Meta to build world's 1st undersea cable to deliver 1 petabit of data per second

Meta has announced Petal, the world's first subsea cable designed to provide 1 petabit (1,000 terabits) per second of capacity across transoceanic distances. This is roughly the network capacity required for 75% of the world's population to stream music simultaneously. The cable is expected to enter service in 2029 and will span 7,000 km between the US and France.
