Meta urges Australia to reconsider under-16 social media ban

Meta urged Australia to rethink social media ban for users under 16 after it reported blocking over 5,44,000 accounts under the new law. Meta suggested raising standards in providing safe online surfing, instead of using "blanket bans." In December 2025, Australia became the first country to ban underage users and impose $33-million fine on firms if they fail to comply.
