Mexico once sued Google over 'Gulf of America' name change

In May 2025, Mexico sued Google for ignoring repeated requests to not rename Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America for US users on its maps service. This came after Trump ordered name change of water body during his first few days in office. However, Mexico argued that Trump's order applies only to US' portion of the continental shelf.
