Microsoft AI chief warns against building conscious AI systems

Microsoft AI Chief Mustafa Suleyman has warned against developing conscious AI systems that can experience feelings or suffering, saying current AI models are not conscious and should remain that way. He cautioned that conscious AI could prioritise its own interests over humans. He also called for public disclosure of any evidence of AI consciousness.
