Microsoft buys 3.6 million metric tons of carbon removal credits
Microsoft signs a deal to buy 3.6 million metric tons of carbon removal credits from bioenergy facility being built by C2X in Louisiana. The plant, to open in 2029, will convert forestry waste into methanol as feedstock for chemical industry. It will produce 500,000 metric tons of methanol yearly and capture one million metric tons of Co2 for geological storage.
