Midjourney ends free trial as fake AI pics of Pope, Trump go viral

AI image generator Midjourney is ending free trials after users created high-profile deepfakes using the tool, including deepfakes of Donald Trump being arrested and Pope Francis wearing a trendy coat, which went viral. CEO David Holz said Midjourney took the decision due to "extraordinary demand and trial abuse". New safeguards weren't sufficient to prevent misuse during trial periods, he added.
