Minnesota lake’s water clarity jumped by 600% after invasive fish removal: Study

A study in 'Inland Waters' found that removing invasive common carp from a Minnesota lake increased water clarity by nearly 600%, while plant cover rose from 4.6% to 90%. Native to Eastern Europe and Asia, common carp dig into lake bottoms for food, uprooting aquatic plants and fuelling algal growth. After treatment with rotenone, water quality improved within months.
