Miocene ancestor of India's Palmyra palm discovered
Researchers from the University of Calcutta, Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya, and Sidho Kanho Birsha University have unearthed a remarkably preserved 5-million-year-old palm tree fossil in West Bengal. Named Palmoxylon mioflabellifer, the fossilized remains of an ancient palm tree were recovered from layers of honeycomb lateritic soil in western Bengal.
