Misleading: PIB on 'govt to access social media, emails' claim

A viral post claiming that Income Tax Department would be able to access one’s social media accounts, emails and other digital platform from April 1, 2026 is misleading, Press Information Bureau (PIB) said. "Unless a taxpayer is undergoing formal search operation due to evidence of tax evasion, the department has no power to access their private digital spaces," PIB added.
