France's Mistral launches Large 4 AI model, claims edge over Chinese rivals

French AI startup Mistral unveiled Mistral Large 4, nicknamed 'Le Chonk', claiming it outperforms some Chinese open-weight models in coding, finance, and cybersecurity. The model goes fully public on October 27 and will be open-weight. CEO Arthur Mensch announced it at an Abu Dhabi conference. Mistral's latest funding round raised €3 billion.
