Mobile phone manufacturers must mandatorily register IMEI numbers with portal: Govt

Department of Telecom has mandated mobile phone manufacturers to register international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers of all mobile phones manufactured in India with Indian Counterfeited Device Restriction portal from January 1 onwards. The same rule is also applicable for imported devices prior to their import to India. Based on norms, all mobile phones must have unique IMEI numbers.
