Mobile World Congress host fined €200,000 over biometric checks

Mobile World Congress (MWC) organiser GSMA has been fined €200,000 by Spain's data protection watchdog over use of facial recognition system during MWC 2021. GSMA had offered attendees the option to use the biometric system to enter the venue. The watchdog said GSMA violated the General Data Protection Regulation and failed to conduct due diligence in the matter.
