Most Indians live in areas smaller than that of a prison cell, according to a government survey. It said that 80% of poorest rural households have an average of 94 square feet per person, while 60% poorest urban households have about 93 square feet per person. Notably, the recommended minimum area per person in prison cells is 96 square feet.
