Mother Teresa was awarded Nobel Peace Prize on October 17, 1979, for her humanitarian work in fighting poverty and distress across the world. She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, in 1950. While receiving the Nobel, she also refused the celebratory dinner and urged to use the $192,000 monetary gift to feed the poor in India.
