Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of wheat residue burning cases from April 1-18, HT reported citing the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. More than 15,830 cases were reported in the state, following which the state government imposed fines worth ₹25 lakh and registered over 50 FIRs against farmers. Uttar Pradesh registered 3,607 cases, Haryana 47 cases and Punjab 14 cases.
