Mumbai food safety chief’s crackdown puts hygiene in the spotlight

Maharashtra food safety commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has led more than 3,000 inspections since taking charge in May, targeting restaurants, hotels, clubs, street vendors and major chains. Authorities suspended licences of four Domino’s and one Pizza Hut outlet, while a McDonald’s outlet was ordered to shut after inspectors reportedly found live cockroaches and rotting food.
