Mumbai lifts 7,000 tonnes of garbage every day: Ashwini Bhide, IAS

Mumbai generates 7,000 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, lifted by 28,000 BMC labourers and 10,000 more from contractors using around 1,400 vehicles, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said on the podcast. About 5,800 tonnes reach Kanjurmarg, "a waste processing unit, not a dumping ground", where bioreactor pits compost, shred and process refuse scientifically.
