Mumbai-New York plane was hijacked by 4 terrorists in Pak 40 years ago on this day

On September 5, 1986, Pan Am's Mumbai-Frankfurt-New York flight carrying 379 people was hijacked by four terrorists during its stopover in Pakistan's Karachi. Flight attendant Neerja Bhanot alerted the cockpit crew, who escaped as the hijacking began and disrupted terrorists' plan to fly to Cyprus and get their accomplices released. Over 20 people died, including Bhanot, in the 17-hour hijacking.
