Mumbai's Taj Hotel was turned into a hospital during WWI
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai was turned into a 600-bed hospital during World War I, from 1914 to 1918. The hotel, which opened 113 years ago on December 16, 1903, charged its first 17 guests ₹10 for single rooms and ₹13 for rooms with attached bathrooms and fans. It was built by Jamsetji Tata for over ₹4 crore.
