Museum says painter himself left 'madman' note on 'The Scream' painting
Norway's National Museum said that a small sentence written with a pencil on Edvard Munch's 1893 masterpiece 'The Scream' was penned by the Norwegian painter himself. The message, barely visible in the top left-hand corner of the painting, reads, "Can only have been painted by a madman." Until now, the note was believed to have been an act of vandalism.
