Muslim population estimated to be 19.7 crore in 2023: Irani

Answering a question in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Smriti Irani said the Muslim population in India in 2023 is estimated to be 19.7 crore. According to the 2011 census, Muslims accounted for 14.2% of the total population. The figure (19.7 crore Muslims) was arrived at using the same 14.2% proportion, Irani added.
