Myanmar extends state of emergency by 6 months on coup anniversary

The state of emergency in Myanmar was extended by a further six months as the military's latest takeover of the government completed two years on Wednesday. The extension was granted by the National Defense and Security Council at the request of the military junta chief. The day also saw the US and its allies announce fresh sanctions against the junta.
