Myanmar's ex-spymaster Ye Win Oo becomes country's military chief

Myanmar's former spymaster Ye Win Oo was appointed the military's commander-in-chief after it ousted the elected government in the February 2021 coup. The 60-year-old general led the contingent of troops that arrested the then-leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The reason behind his selection is his loyalty to the outgoing commander, Min Aung Hlaing, who is poised to become President.
