Myanmar's military has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity since it took power in a coup, the UN said. Security forces have shown a flagrant disregard for human life, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said. Many victims were shot in the head, burned to death, arrested arbitrarily, tortured, or used as human shields, she added.
