NASA AI captures changes in active volcano's lava lake

NASA's Earth-observing spacecraft autonomously started capturing images of a volcano with a rare lava lake, in Ethiopia as it developed a new fissure in late January. The spacecraft's inbuilt artificial intelligence (AI) system was alerted by a nearby satellite, which then mapped out the volcanic event before researchers had put up a request to image the activity.
