NASA develops AI to predict solar storms 12 hours before they appear

NASA scientists are using artificial intelligence to detect hidden magnetic activity beneath the Sun's surface. A machine-learning model developed by the Consequence of Fields and Flows in the Interior and Exterior of the Sun (COFFIES) team can predict emerging active regions up to 12 hours before they become visible. The research could provide earlier warnings of solar flares.
