NASA's space plant research could aid Moon, Mars missions

NASA's 1990s shuttle experiments showed that corn seeds can germinate in microgravity, but weakened gravity disrupted normal root and shoot orientation. Plants relied more on light and other cues. The findings now inform ISS research into controlled space farming, potentially supporting fresh food, oxygen production, and resource recycling on future Moon and Mars missions.
