NASA's DART spacecraft hits asteroid in world's 1st-ever planetary defence test

NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) hit the asteroid Dimorphos on Tuesday in the world's first-ever mission to test technology for defending Earth against potential asteroid or comet hazards. The spacecraft deliberately crashed into the 530-foot-wide asteroid to potentially change its trajectory. The impact was made at a distance of 7 million miles (11 million kilometres) from Earth.
