National record holder Pooja once practiced high jumps using bamboo poles & sacks

Pooja Singh, who won gold breaking 14-year-old high jump national record at Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, hails from Haryana. Daughter of a construction worker, she used to practice high jumps in her village using bamboo poles and sacks instead of professional equipment. Notably, she breached qualifying standard for the Commonwealth Games after clearing 1.93m.
