National tragedy: Ex-CEA Arvind Subramanian on popcorn taxation

Ex-Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian criticised the different GST rates announced for popcorn by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday. "This is a national tragedy, violating the spirit of the Good & Simple Tax the GST was meant to be," he said. "Instead of at least moving in the direction of simplicity we are veering [towards] greater complexity," he added.
