Nearly 10,000 MBBS seats added for 2026-27 session

National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved nearly 10,000 (9,911) additional MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session, taking the country’s total sanctioned MBBS seat capacity to 1,36,939. After the increase, government institutes will have 63,296 seats, and private colleges will have 73,643 seats. Karnataka will have the highest, 15,395 seats, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 14,000 seats.
