Nepal loses original copy of 1816 border treaty as it claims 3 Indian territories as its own
Nepal's government has said it is unable to confirm if documents of 1816 Treaty of Sugauli that it possesses are original. The treaty, which led to Nepal surrendering substantial territory to East India Company, became a principal basis for determining Nepal's boundaries with British India and later, India. Nepal claims India's Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani as part of its territory.
