Nepal requests India to accept biometric card as travel document

Nepal has formally requested India to recognise their National Identity (NID) card, containing biometric data like fingerprints and iris scans, as an official travel document, The Kathmandu Post reported. Nepali nationals travelling to India are currently required to carry their citizenship certificate and passport. Around 4.5 million people in Nepal reportedly have a National Identity (NID) card.
