New 'Powerplay' rule announced to speed up BBL matches

The Big Bash League (BBL) has introduced a new slow over-rate rule to speed up matches. From the 2026-27 season, teams must complete their 20 overs within 84 minutes. If the timer expires, full Powerplay restrictions will apply from the next ball for rest of the innings, meaning only two fielders can remain outside the circle.
