New chickenpox-causing virus variant found in India

A new variant of the chicken pox virus has been detected in India for the first time, said a study by ICMR-NIV. The variant, known as Clade 9, was found during the surveillance for mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) cases, the study said. Clade 9 is the most common chickenpox-causing virus strain in Germany, the UK and the US.
