New conger Eel species discovered off Kerala’s coast

Researchers from ICAR-CMFRI in Kochi discovered a new species of deep-sea conger eel, Ariosoma cmfriense. It was obtained from a depth of 300 metres along the continental slope off Quilon, Kerala, during a Deep Ocean Mission survey. It measures 255 millimetres in total length; the single specimen was found by sorting deep-sea bottom trawl bycatch.
