New crab species found in west coast mangrove forests

Researcher Sameer Kumar Pati identified new crab species Chhapgarus ngankeeae in Goan mangroves. Previously misidentified in ZSI collections from Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, it differs anatomically from Chhapgarus intermedius. Discovery from microscopic re-exam of preserved intertidal mangrove specimens highlights understudied biodiversity in India’s west coast collections.
