New dinosaur species that lived 72 mn years ago discovered in Japan
Researchers have identified a new species and genus of dinosaurs from fossils unearthed in Japan's Hokkaido. Named Paralitherizinosaurus japonicus, these (mostly) plant-eating dinosaurs lived about 72 million years ago. They belonged to a family of small to large theropod dinosaurs called Therizinosauridae. Belonging to a new taxon, these dinosaurs had distinct characteristics in limbs and claws.
