New fire-resilient species of Dicliptera found in India's Western Ghats
A fire-resilient plant species, Dicliptera polymorpha, has been discovered in India's Western Ghats. This new species flowers twice, with its second bloom triggered by grassland fires. Adapted to local fire cycles, it survives and even thrives post-fire, displaying a rare resilience. Its distinctive spicate inflorescence is unusual among Indian species, with its closest relatives found in Africa.
