New frog species named after Kerala social worker Padmini Varkey

Scientists named a new species of cascade frogs found in Tripura after late social worker from Kerala Padmini Varkey, who was affectionately called 'ammachi' meaning mother. The amolops ammachi frog measures around 80 mm and has a light brown coloured body marked with olive-green patterns. Scientists also discovered Sendenyu cascade frog in Nagaland and amolops bella in West Bengal.
