New liquor shops in urban Bengal must be 500-m away from schools, religious sites
The West Bengal government has increased the mandatory distance for liquor shops from educational institutions and religious sites to 500 metres in urban and municipal areas, from the earlier 300 metres. Moreover, a recent government notification said that no such licences will be granted within a 1-km radius of educational and religious institutions in rural and non-municipal areas.
