New pale blue damselfish species discovered in Maldives
Researchers have discovered a new damselfish species, Chromis abadhah, in the deep-sea coral reefs off the Maldives. Measuring 6.9 cm, the fish features a pale blue underside and white top, helping it evade predators. The species, named after the project's funders, was found inhabiting reef crevasses near sea sponges, areas likely providing vital protection from predators.
