New reptile species discovered, Assam CM calls it proud moment

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the discovery of a new gecko species, Cyrtodactylus jayadityai, saying, "A proud moment for Assam...and...the Northeast," on X. He noted that such discoveries highlight the region's rich biodiversity and sustained ecological preservation efforts. The species discovered in Tripura is categorised as 'Data Deficient' under IUCN list.
