New technique aims to detect stranded whales from space

A new technique for analysing satellite images may help scientists detect and count stranded whales from space. The new detection method using Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite images will lead to real-time information as stranding events happen. In 2015, a mass-stranding of over 340 whales in Chile's Patagonia region, was not discovered for several weeks due to the region's remoteness.
