American researchers have found a new technique to remove oils and pollutants from water. In the technique, melamine sponges, found in household cleaning products, were coated with a specific solution that repels water and allows oil to be absorbed. "We believe this [process] can be readily adopted for the cleanup of oil spills and industrial chemical leaks", a researcher said.
