New virus found in 1 of the world's deepest locations in the ocean
Scientists from China's Ocean University have found a new virus in one of the world's deepest locations. This bacteriophage virus, which infects and replicates inside bacteria, was found 8,900 metres below sea level in Mariana Trench, which holds the world's deepest known point at about 11,000 metres. Named vB_HmeY_H4907, the virus likely infects its host bacteria but doesn't kill it.
